DB Rocky Hayes Earns Week 8 Defensive Player of the Week
DES MOINES – Iowa Barnstormers defensive back Rocky Hayes was named the Indoor Football League’s Defensive Player of the Week for Week 8, the League announced today.
Hayes (6’0, 190, Arkansas State) earned IFL Defensive Player of the Week Honors after sealing the Iowa Barnstormers victory over the Nebraska Danger with an interception. After faltering against the Danger in Week 6, the Barnstormers took vengeance in Week 8 with a 41-25 victory over the Danger. The league’s second ranked defense held the Danger to the team’s lowest point total of the season. DB Rocky Hayes helped ensure the Barnstormers’ defensive mastery with his game-sealing interception of Danger QB Jesse Scroggins III. In addition, Hayes also recovered a fumble in the third quarter which would eventually lead to a Barnstormers touchdown. Hayes finished the game with six tackles, one interception, and one fumble recovery.
Hayes and the Barnstormers are on a bye week this week, but will return to Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday April 28 to take on the Green Bay Blizzard. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05pm. Fans can purchase tickets to the game by calling the Barnstormers front office at 515-633-2255.
The Indoor Football League awarded running back Darrell Monroe of the Arizona Rattlers with Offensive Player of the Week, while running back Lyle McCombs of the Sioux Falls Storm earned Special Teams Player of the Week.
The Barnstormers return to Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday, April 28 for Family Night. Local area mascots will be in attendance to cheer on the team!
