Hawkeye Boys State applications due soon

U.S. FlagOskaloosa’s Harry L. Anderson Post #34 of the American Legion is accepting candidate applications for the 79th Annual American Legion Hawkeye Boys State through November 6.

Known as “Iowa’s premiere civic education program,” Hawkeye Boys State is a hands-on six-day course in city, county and state government functioning.

Boys State candidates must be US citizens who have completed their junior year of high school but have at least one semester remaining before graduation. Also, they should possess the qualities of leadership, scholarship, citizenship and a willingness to participate. An interest in United States history and government, along with the ability to debate or speak in public, will also be beneficial to candidates.
