Harry Howard Kemp, 86, of Oskaloosa died Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born March 13, 1931, in Rose Hill, Iowa, the son of Harry A. and Anna Faye McDonald Kemp.

Harry graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1948. He continued his education at the University of Tulsa, in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he earned his bachelor degree in business.

Following college graduation, Harry was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict.

Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Harry returned to Oskaloosa and joined the family business, Kemp Trucking in Oskaloosa and Kemp feed store and chicken hatchery in Sigourney. On April 26, 1958, Harry was united in marriage to Rachael Monast in Muscatine, Iowa.

After some time working at Kemp Trucking and the feed store, Harry realized that driving a semi was where he wanted to be so he started Harry H. Kemp Enterprises. He owned and operated the business for nearly 10 years. He then went to work for a paving company managing their fleet of trucks locally and in Waterloo. Last, he drove semi for various local companies until his retirement.

Harry loved to garden and travel.

His family includes his wife of 59 years, Rachael Kemp of Oskaloosa; and a son, Jay Kemp of Clermont, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Irene Kent.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 12, at 10:30 am in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Reverend Tim Johnson officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be 9:00 to 10:30 on Friday prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to MHP Hospice Serenity House.
