Harriette Stanley, 99, of Ottumwa and formerly of Gibson, died Thursday, July 23, 2020. Harriette Rachel Stanley was born March 18, 1921 in Sigourney, Iowa, the daughter of Alvin and Vera Garrett Atwood.

Harriette was a 1939 graduate of What Cheer High School.

Harriette was united in marriage to Hoyte E. Stanley on November 2, 1940 in Des Moines, Iowa.

She was a member of the Gibson Presbyterian Church and a sixty-year member of the former Dorcas Society. Harriette enjoyed playing the organ and piano, quilting, reading, crafts, playing dominos, solving jigsaw puzzles and above all, spending time with family and friends. She will be remembered as a strong-willed Christian woman who treated everyone with respect and kindness.

Harriette is survived by a son, Vernon Stanley of Sigourney; a daughter, Nancy (& David) Bishop of Ottumwa; four granddaughters: Valerie Hoffer, Sherry Manville, Christine (& Dr. Tony) Gehrig, all of Sigourney, and Paula (& Dr. Tom) Lopp of Blakesburg. She also leaves behind seven great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; five nieces and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hoyte Stanley; two sisters, Margaret Atwood and Marianne White; a brother, Cecil Atwood; and a daughter-in-law, Grace Stanley.

A graveside service will begin at 3:00 pm on Monday, July, 27, 2020 at Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg.
No visitation is planned.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Gibson Presbyterian Church or Sixteen Cemetery.
