Harlon Eugene Hayworth, age 64, of Albia, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018, at his home in Albia, under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. Harlon was an only child born on February 21, 1954, to Roy and Vera (Sinclair) Hayworth.
When Harlon was born, they lived on a farm in rural Blakesburg and later moved to a home in Albia. He lived at home with his parents until 1994 when he moved to Parkview Cottage on Spruce Lane in Albia, where he lived the remainder of his years. Harlon received Supported Community Living services provided by Monroe County Professional Management while residing at Parkview.
Harlon attended a school for the mentally handicapped in Albia where his mother taught. In Harlon’s adult life, he attended Ragtime Industries in Albia for many years. He later attended the Monroe County Professional Management Day Habilitation program where he made many friends and participated in group community outings and many enjoyable activities.
Harlon loved his recliner at home where he liked to watch television, especially Popeye. He loved when others would sing “You Are My Sunshine” and “Popeye the Sailor Man” to him. Harlon had a great appetite and a love for food. Harlon was a very pleasant man who was loved by all those who surrounded him.
Harlon is survived by an uncle, Joe (& Roberta) Hayworth of Des Moines, IA; an aunt, Maxine Martins of Des Moines, IA; as well as many cousins and their families.
Harlon is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Vera; his cousin and former guardian of many years, Gary Davis; his aunts: Opal (& Leonard) Fillmore, Vera (& Everet) Peterson, Pearl (& Bill) Hall, Mildred (& Ottis) Davis, and Frances (& Lloyd) Felton; and an uncle, Duane (& Regena) Sinclair.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Harlon’s family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to greet family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at the First Christian Church in Albia, with Lynda Carlson officiating.
Burial will follow services at Oak View Cemetery in Albia.
A memorial has been established to Monroe County Professional Management in Albia.
