Habitat to Hold Groundbreaking Ceremony for Next Home

Mahaska County Habitat for Humanity will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Affiliate’s next home on Sunday, May 18, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. The groundbreaking ceremony will be held at the home site at 1004 Mabel Street in Oskaloosa. The public is invited to attend. The home is being built in partnership with Joshua and Stephanie Evans and their two children.
As an ecumenical Christian organization, Habitat for Humanity works toward eliminating substandard housing and empowering families in Mahaska County. Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. Through donations of money and materials and volunteer labor, Mahaska County Habitat for Humanity will be able to build the homes and sell them to Habitat’s partner families, at no profit and with no interest charged. Partner families invest hundreds of hours of their own labor “sweat equity” into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.
Homeowners are selected based on their need for housing, their ability to repay a mortgage and their willingness to work in partnership with Habitat. Habitat does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, ethnicity or any other difference.
Mahaska County Habitat for Humanity is a people-to-people partnership drawing together individuals and communities to build decent, affordable housing. We are committed to the development and uplifting of people and communities, not only the development of housing.
