Grove, Zerley Pick Up Regional Awards
Oskaloosa–Two senior Statesmen softball players claimed a little more hardware as their career wraps up as the 2015 National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced its NAIA all-Region teams recently.
Brittanee Grove (Sr., Runnells, Iowa, Elementary Education) and Bri Zerley (Sr., Monroe, Iowa, Biology) were both named to the Central’s first team; the honor is the second for Grove and the first for Zerley. Grove earned the award as a designated hitter, while Zerley took the accolade as an at-large pick.
A first-team all-Midwest Collegiate Conference selection, Grove hit .380 (63-for-166) with 18 doubles, two triples, three home runs, 39 RBIs, and 32 runs scored. The senior posted a .566 slugging percentage and a .458 on-base clip.
Zerley, also a first-team all-MCC honoree, batted .344 (56-for-163) with 17 doubles, one triple, and a team-best seven home runs. She drove in 45 and touched home plate 36 times–also both team highs. Zerley had a WPU-best .589 slugging percentage and notched a .401 on-base clip.
