OTTUMWA — Indian Hills Community College softball players Alexis Groet and Alexis Westercamp, both former Oskaloosa High School standouts, have been named to the first-team all-region softball team at IHCC.

In addition to her all-region honor, Groet was also named the region’s Pitcher of the Year for what has been a record-breaking performance in her freshman season. Groet has 273 strikeouts, the highest single-season total in program history and the most of any pitcher at a two-year school in the NJCAA. She won all three games Indian Hills played in last weekend’s ICCAC postseason tournament, not allowing a run in 15 2/3 innings and striking out 18. With back-to-back two-hit shutouts in the final two games, Groet now has 10 shutouts for the spring. She has posted a record of 21-7 with a 2.02 ERA and has struck out 10 or more in a game 12 times, including a season-high 21 Ks in a 10-inning win against State Fair.

Westercamp, a sophomore, is a two-year starter for Indian Hills and leads the team in games played, having appeared in all but one of 54 contests. She has batted .363 with 11 homers and 37 RBIs. The team’s regular catcher has scored 39 runs and blasted 10 doubles and a triple. Westercamp’s solo home run accounted for the only score in IHCC’s 1-0 win against Iowa Western in the region tournament.

Indian Hills is 38-16 and will carry a 23-game winning streak into this week’s district tourney against Crowder (Mo.). IHCC will host the best-of-three tournament with game one Friday afternoon at 2:00 in Ottumwa. The winner advances to the NJCAA national tournament.
