GRINNELL, Iowa – Kayla Morrissey ’18 has become the first Grinnell College women’s basketball player in a decade to collect D3hoops.com All-Region recognition, earning a spot on the Central Region third team.

Morrissey, a 5-10 forward from Burr Ridge, Ill. (Lyons Township North), is also a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® first-team selection and a two-time All-Midwest Conference first-team pick.

She is Grinnell’s first All-Region selection since Hannah Wolf ’08 earned the honor in 2008. Morrissey ranks third nationally in free throws made with 168 and is the MWC leader in four other categories – points per game (20.7), total points (456), defensive rebounds per game (7.0) and free throw attempts (211).

Morrissey is Grinnell’s career leader in free throws made and attempted with 417 and 546, which rank fourth and fifth in the MWC.

She finished in the Grinnell top 10 in 10 other career categories, including points (third with 1,426), scoring average (third at 15.3), 3-point percentage (third at 32.4 percent), field goals made (fifth with 471), free throw percentage (fifth at 77.8), rebounds (sixth with 614), blocked shots (sixth with 66), field goals (seventh with 1,081), rebound average (seventh at 6.6) and blocked shots average (seventh at 0.7).

In season categories, she ranks second in free throws made (168) and attempted (211), is sixth in scoring average (20.7) and eighth in points (456). Both free throws made and attempted are second in the MWC.

The Central Region Player of the Year is Jen Dowden of Wisconsin Lutheran, while Kelsey Burton of Lake Forest College was named Rookie of the Year. Carissa Sain Knoche of the University of Chicago earned Coach of the Year honors.
