GRINNELL’S HUEY AND BRIGGS NAMED TO 2012 ALL-MIDWEST CONFERENCE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College’s Megan Huey ’12 and Michelle Briggs ’13 have been named to the 2012 All-Midwest Conference Women’s Basketball Team.

Both players were named to the second team.

Huey, a 5-11 forward from Wichita, Kan. (West Des Moines Valley), was fourth in the conference in rebounding and blocks with 8.3 and 1.1 per game, respectively. She also ranked among the league leaders in scoring (11.1 points per game) and field goal percentage (44.4 percent). Huey, who had seven double-doubles during the season, was named to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week and was a MWC Performer of the Week.

Briggs, a 6-3 center from Salinas, Calif. (Santa Catalina), led the conference in rebounding and blocked shots with 9.4 and 3.8 a game, respectively. The latter figure also ranked among the best in the nation. Briggs, who had eight double-doubles during the season, nearly averaged a double-double as she tallied 10.5 points a game.

Janelle Groer of Carroll University was named the MWC Player of the Year, while Melissa Bittner of Monmouth College was tabbed Coach of the Year.
