67 golfers were at Edmundson Golf in Oskaloosa bright and early Saturday to show support for Crisis Intervention Services at their 16th Annual Golf Tournament. The golfers made up of a total of 18 teams, which came close to filling out the 20 team max for the tournament. The tournament acts as a mid-year fundraiser for the agency, with the proceeds becoming unrestricted funds that can be used for whatever is needed by the people the agency helps. This year, the tournament had an extra draw for golfers–a $10,000 Hole-in-One Prize–sponsored by MidWest One Bank.

Crisis Intervention Services (CIS) provides comprehensive sexual assault and shelter services and covers 12 counties, with their shelter and transitional housing units based in Oskaloosa. CIS helped 525 sexual assault victims last year across the 12 county region. Nancy Robertson is the Executive Director and has been with the agency for 6 years. Nancy spoke to all the golfers prior to the start of tournament, and gave some insight into what exactly the tournament does for CIS. Nancy says that CIS “is so blessed in this community, and especially at Christmas time, that there is just this outpouring of support. Having this in the middle of the year helps sustain different [things]….so this money really comes in handy because it is unrestricted.”

In addition to the portion of the entrance fee for the tournament that goes to CIS, volunteers and donors in the community put together various prizes for the golfers. The golfers were able to buy Mulligans for $10, which also gave them 5 tickets to put in for various packages provided by donors in the community. There was also a “String It In” option that could be purchased for each team, which extended the hole 20 feet. Packages included items from area businesses, such as Fareway, Book Vault, Knoxville Raceway, Jaarsma Bakery, 804 Decor, Frisian Farms, Hunters, and many more.

Several area businesses supported the tournament, with 3 different levels of sponsorship. Silver sponsors were on the sponsor board and in advertising for the event, Gold level got a tee sign, overall advertising, and in the program for the event, and the Event sponsors were in all advertising, social media, a tee sign, and received 2 gift certificates for 18 holes at Edmundson Golf (provided by Matt Sherlock of Edmundson Golf).
