Gov. Branstad appoints Libby Jacobs to Iowa Utilities Board

(DES MOINES) – Gov. Terry E. Branstad today appointed former State Rep. Elizabeth (Libby) Jacobs to the Iowa Utilities Board.

“I am pleased to announce that I have appointed Libby Jacobs to the Iowa Utilities Board,” said Branstad. “Libby’s experience in both the public and private sector will be beneficial to the board as they continue to be a solutions-oriented partner in utilities issues.”

The Iowa Utilities Board regulates utilities to ensure a fair marketplace with reasonably priced, reliable, environmentally responsible, and safe utilities for all Iowans.

Jacobs’ term on the board will last from May 1, 2011 to April 30, 2017.

Additionally, Branstad appointed Jacobs chair of the board. She will serve in that capacity from May 1, 2011 to April 30, 2013.

Jacobs will replace Krista Tanner on the board. The current chair, Rob Bernstein, will remain on the board as a member.

Jacobs’ name has been submitted to the Senate for confirmation.

Jacobs served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1994 to 2008. She sat on the House Commerce Committee for 14 years and served as Majority Whip from 1999-2006. After stepping down in 2008, Jacobs launched The Jacobs Group, LLC, a Des Moines based consulting firm.

Jacobs was born in Lincoln, Nebraska and earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in Political Science from The University of Nebraska. She later earned a Master’s of Public Administration from Drake University. Libby and her husband, Steve, reside in West Des Moines, Iowa. They have two daughters.
