Atchison, Kan.–Guadalupe Gonzalez (Sr., Houston, Texas, Exercise Science) will be returning to nationals in the marathon after qualifying in her first attempt of the year at the Red Lane Half Marathon Sunday.

The senior placed fourth out of 17 competitors in the 13.1-mile race with an automatic-qualifying time of 1:26:46. The time is also a new school record, breaking her old mark from a year ago of 1:28:16.

She will now have to wait until the latter part of next May to compete in the marathon at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships. Gonzalez placed 22nd in last year’s competition.

Joseph Diaz (Fr., Laredo, Texas, Wellness and Recreation) also raced Sunday, finishing in a time of 1:27:13.

Next Up: William Penn officially opens the indoor season Saturday by traveling to Pella to compete in the Central Holiday Preview.
