Georgia Butcher, 73 of New Sharon passed away Sunday afternoon, January 28, 2018 at her home in New Sharon. Georgia Kaye Butcher, the daughter of Kenneth and Pauline (Vincent) Smith, was born on July 9, 1944 in Grinnell, Iowa.

Georgia attended Searsboro schools before graduating from Lynnville-Sully High School in 1962.

On September 9, 1962, Georgia was united in marriage to Dean Butcher in Searsboro. To this union four children were born: Angie, Andrea Kaye, Arl and Alicia.

Georgia held several part time jobs before she was the dietary aid for the New Sharon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for 16 years. She went back to school receiving her CNA training from Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa.

Georgia loved playing cards especially Poker. She was a huge Boston Celtics fan and enjoyed cheering on her favorite player, Larry Bird. She was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Georgia was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for friends and family. She was also a straight shooter and always let you know what was on her mind. She enjoyed her time and friendships at Praire Homes. Family was extremely important to Georgia, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and her pool parties with her sisters and friends.

Georgia was a giver and donated to several different charities and also donated blood. She was very patriotic and enjoyed helping place the flags up in the cemeteries during Memorial Day and Veteran Day. She was a member of the New Sharon First Christian Church and the Good Time Fellowship.

Her memory will be cherished by her children: Angie Freeborn of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Andrea Kaye (& Jeff) Bittner of New Sharon, Iowa, Arl Butcher of Oskaloosa, Iowa and Alicia (& Mark) Schultz of Lincoln, Iowa; her six grandchildren: Shannon (& Allen) Mathes, Seth (& Lexi Kriegel) Freeborn, Chance Readshaw, Chloe K “Cookie” Readshaw, Madie Mae Trent and Logan (& Mike Owen) Suntken; four great grandchildren: Beckett, Max, Carter and Noah; two sisters: Rowena Porter of Grinnell and Kennetha Criswell of New Sharon; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

As was her wish, her body has been cremated. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements. Memorial services will begin at 11:00 am Friday, February 2, 2018 at the New Sharon First Christian Church.
A visitation/luncheon will follow the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Sharon First Christian Church.
