Frances Lorraine Ferguson, 88. Of Oskaloosa, died Monday, October 15, 2018, at MHP Hospice Serenity House. She was born Monday, July 7, 1930 in Fremont, Iowa, the daughter of William and Thelma Alderman Vander Waal.

Frances graduated from New Sharon High School with the class of 1948 and following graduation attended Des Moines Business School.

On February 2, 1949, Frances married Charles H. Augustine. To this union 4 children were born, Bill, Linda, Carol and Diane.

Frances and Charles moved to the farm after marriage and Frances worked along side of Charles as well as taking care of her home and family. Every year they would plant a large garden and can many quarts of produce.

In August of 1975 Frances married Earl Ferguson, Earl died November 28, 1993.

Frances was a member of Union Mills Christian Church and attended First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. She volunteered for 19 years at the Iowa State Fair and camped at the fair for 40 years.

She loved “donut days” with her family, making over 40 dozen at times and loved to share them with family and friends. She also enjoyed tending to her flower beds. She was a very talented cook and baker, she published a cook book but was always ready to alter a recipe and try something new in the kitchen. She baked numerous birthday, wedding, and anniversary cakes for family and friends. She had a lifelong love of animals, especially horses when she and Earl would go on trail rides.

Following Earl’s death Frances enjoyed traveling all over the country with her friends. She delighted most in her family, she always looked forward to get togethers with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family.

Frances’ family includes her four children: William (& Sue) Augustine of Chicago; Linda Lee of Oskaloosa; Carol (& Robert) Herr of Fremont; and Diane (& Dennis) Green of Oskaloosa; 14 grandchildren: John (& Michela) Augustine, Jill Firch, Holly Koehler, Joshua (& Julie) Spears, Troy (& Jill) Lee, Tracy (& Bob) Owen, Kari (& TJ) Nydle, Jennifer (& Roger) Lathen, David (& Cara) Herr, Renee (& Steve) Edgar, Kelly (& Karyn) Green, Lindsey (& Brett) Herny, Katy (& Aaron) Greene, and Grant Blake; 26 great grandchildren: Margaret, Ava, Katherine, Carlson, Dillinger, Jacob, Zachary, Courtney, Hunter, Kylie, Breyanna, Casey, Clay, Rylie, Katelyn, Jaden, Mason, Loghan, Tyler, Kyanna, Kolsyn, Blake, Brody, Boston, Arya and Tatum;

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sons-in-law: Donald Jo Spears and Jim Lee; a grandson, Jeremy Spears; a grandson-in-law, Larry Koehler; a great grandson, Matthew Edgar; and a brother, Roy L. Vander Waal.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, October 18, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Molly Goodrich and Reverend Kerry Lake officiating.
A private burial will in the Union Mills Cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin after 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Wednesday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to MHP Hospice Serenity House or Stephens Memorial Animal Shelter.
