Fossil Hunt at Russell Wildlife Area

Wednesday, July 17, 2024

9:00-10:00 am

Fossil hunting is a fun activity for all ages! From 9:00-10:00 am Wednesday, July 17th join Mahaska County Conservation naturalist, Laura DeCook, on a morning adventure to find fossils at Russell Wildlife Area.

Please park by the Pond 1 parking lot (south side of pond next to 200th St.) The fossil area will be a short walk from there. If you want a map of where to go, just ask for it when you sign up. It is a suggestion to bring water, sunscreen and a hat because it will be hot in our location. Mahaska County Conservation will provide digging tools such as trowels to use at the program, but you are welcome to bring your own. Each participant will be able to take home fossils!

If you can join us, please sign up by calling (641)673-9327 or email decook@mahaskacountyia.gov.

The Russell Wildlife Area is located at 2342 – 200th St., New Sharon, IA 50207.
