Floyd Dean Self Jr., age 62, of Williamson passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2018, at the Legacy Lodge in Chariton surrounded by his family.

Dean was born to Floyd Dean Sr. and Wilma Marths (Myers) Self in Omak, Washington on April 25, 1956.

Dean grew up and attended school in Washington state.

After high school Dean served his country in the United States Marine Corps during peace time. He then spent the majority of his career as an over the road truck driver.

Dean’s greatest joys in life were his grandchildren and traveling. He spent the last months of his life traveling the country with his girlfriend and dogs. He will be remembered by his friends and family for his strength and kindness.

Dean is survived by his girlfriend, Lydia Borntrager of Williamson; his six children: Annie (& Edwin) Innis of Phoenix – their children: Dion, Shyenne, Diontre, Justus and Ayrez, – and great-grandson, Khizar; Rachelle Self of Des Moines; Brittney (& Ryan) Ammons of Albia and their daughter, Berkley; John (& Ashley) Self of Knoxville and their children, Noah and Grace; Courtney Marshall of Pella and her son Kollin; and Jessica Self of Pella. His sisters: JoAnn (& Robert) Roe, Linda (& Rick) Judd, Wendy Edwards, and Connie (& Don) Graham. Dean is also survived by many loved nephews, a niece and cousins; and his beloved uncle, Junior Self.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents.

A time of remembrance of Dean’s life will be held from 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 26, 2018, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with military rites at 3:30 p.m., provided by the American Legion of Albia, Lovilia and Melrose. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
A memorial has been established to the Legacy Lodge in Chariton.
