Five Pick Up Multiple Wins at MVC Tourney

Marshall, Mo.–Christian Padilla (Sr., Tampa, Fla., Secondary Education) led the Statesmen wrestling team by placing at the Missouri Valley Invitational Friday and Saturday.
As a squad, WPU was 18th out of 28 teams with 30.5 points, while Montana State-Northern won the event with 161 points.
Padilla finished the tournament with a 3-3 record to take sixth place at 157 pounds. He opened the event with three victories, including two by fall, to reach the semifinals.
141-pounder Kionte Crocker (So., Brandon, Fla., Industrial Technology) also picked up three wins (3-2 record), but missed placing in the top eight by one triumph.
Padilla was not the only 157-pounder to produce at the Invitational as Austinn Goin (Fr., Belton, Mo., Exercise Science) was 2-2. 165-pounder Johnny Hopper (So., Basehor, Kan., Psychology) and 184-pounder Cody Jones (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Biology) (two falls) both posted 2-2 marks.
Tommy Rios (Fr., Tucson, Ariz., Exercise Science), with one fall at 133 pounds, and John Altieri (Fr., Warwick, R.I., Sociology), with one decision at 125 pounds, each had their hands raised once.
Next Up: William Penn returns to Waverly next Saturday to compete in Wartburg’s Chelsey M. Henkenius Open.
