Firefighters Battle Garage Fire
Oskaloosa, Iowa – Oskaloosa firefighters were called to the scene of a garage fully engulfed early Monday morning.
A passerby noticed the flames and called 911, and emergency personnel were dispatched shortly after 1am Monday.
Twelve firefighters were on the scene for less than two hours.
Oskaloosa Interim Fire Chief Dave Christensen said the cause currently appears to be an electrical short in the ceiling near the south side of the garage. “It started up high.”
The homes near the garage did sustain some radiated heat damage due to the fire.
Christensen estimates the damage to be $50,000. “The garage and contents was a total loss.”
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
Oskaloosa Fire was assisted at the scene by the Oskaloosa Police Department, Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office, and Mahaska Health Partnership Emergency Services.
