The flag flying over the bandstand during the month of February is in honor of Eugene Rosebrook Daniels.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy (Seabee branch) at the age of 17 in 1945. He served in Guam during this time. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1948. After serving 20 years he retired in May 1967. He was stationed in Korea for a time and did two tours, one in Japan and one in Germany. His specialty was Corp of Engineers.
Eugene returned to Iowa where he resided in Beacon. He was a life-member of the Keo-Mah Genealogical Society. He loved talking about his military days to anyone who would listen. He also enjoyed gardening and carpentry.
