Evelyn Kauffman, 92, of Sigourney and formerly of Rose Hill died Saturday, January 5, 2019, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney. She was born November 30, 1926, in Rose Hill, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Leota DeMoney Rutherford.

Following school, Evelyn did housecleaning in private homes. On October 7, 1950, she was united in marriage to Frederick Kauffman in Oskaloosa. Fred died on October 5, 2005, after nearly 55 years of marriage. Following their marriage Evelyn stayed home to care for her family and home. Once her children were grown, she returned to cleaning houses.

Evelyn enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens, birds, and owls. Evelyn’s family was the center of her world, she was always eager to prepare a meal for her family to get together and enjoy. She was a very talented baker and cook.

Her family include her seven children: Steve Kauffman of Rose Hill, Kathy Meeker of Hedrick, Dan Kauffman of Rose Hill, Alma (& Kyle) Morgan of Rose Hill, Nancy (& Lyle) Whitlatch of Oskaloosa, Nanette (& Gary) Jochims of Oskaloosa, and Ron (& Chanel) Kauffman of Beacon; a daughter in law, Carol Rutherford of Evans; twenty one grandchildren; thirty one great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Rutherford of rural Sigourney and Richard (& Sharon) Rutherford of Barnes City; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, DeWayne Rutherford and Ronald Kauffman; a daughter, Carolyn Kauffman; a great grandson, Caleb Hammond; a brother, Lloyd Rutherford in infancy; a daughter in law, Vickie Kauffman; and a son in law, Wesley Meeker.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend John DeBoef officiating.
Burial will be in the Indianapolis Cemetery near What Cheer. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Monday after 10:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Monday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to MHP Hospice.
