Ernest was born January 10, 1937, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Frances Crawford Wissler, Sr. He attended the Waukee High School.

Ernest was united in marriage to Linda Lou McCombs on September 18, 1955. Linda passed away July 4, 1999. He later married Debra Matthies on December 10, 1999.

Ernest worked for Budweiser, driving delivery trucks and also worked as a dealer for Liggett Myers Cigarettes. He owned and operated the DX Station in Fremont for a time before being employed by Jerry Smith’s Motorcycle Shop and then Green’s Ford Dealership in Oskaloosa, later known as Carriker Ford. After being involved in a motorcycle accident, Ernest was employed as a mechanic at the Carriker Ford Dealership where he was later shop foreman.

Ernest loved camping, riding motorcycles, mowing his yard, and pushing snow.

Ernest was a volunteer for the Fremont Fire Department and Ambulance Service, and was a member of the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Posse.

Ernest is survived by his wife, Debra Wissler, of Fremont; a son: Allen Wissler, of Oskaloosa; two daughters: Cheryl (Chuck) Eklofe, of Fremont, and Brenda Watters of Yakima, Washington; a sister: Nelva Allen, of Bloomington, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda; his parents; a brother: Bill Wissler; and a great-granddaughter: Shaylee Kelderman.

Visitation: Open after 12:00 noon with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. April 21, 2014 at Fremont Funeral Chapel

Interment: Cedar Township Memorial Cemetery
