Elmore Wins All-America Award in High Jump

Pittsburg, Kan.–In his third trip, Tristen Elmore (So., Ovied, Fla., Physical Education) finally got on the podium and extended William Penn’s All-America streak as the Statesmen competed at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships Friday.
Elmore tied for fourth in the high jump at 6-7, earning his first All-America honor and becoming the 18th All-American in program history. Tyler Blakeley of Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) won the NAIA title at 6-10.75.
His accolade extends WPU’s impressive streak of All-Americans to seven-consecutive national championships, dating back to the 2015 indoor event. During the streak, the navy and gold have claimed 10 All-America laurels.
Elmore also participated in the long jump immediately after the high jump, but came up short of a second podium showing, finishing 16th out of 18 individuals at 21-5.
Mofiyinfoluwa Alade (Fr., Hoffman Estates, Ill.) joined Elmore in the high jump field, but finished one clearance shy of also winning an award. The freshman hit the 6-6 mark to tie for 13th place.
Derek Robinson (Sr., Jenks, Okla., Communications) also gave it a go, but was unable to tally a top-eight finish in the weight throw. The senior took 19th place out of 27 competitors with a toss of 55-2.
After the second day of action, WPU is tied for 20th with four points, while Bethel (Ind.) tops the standings with 26 points.
“I am proud of what our gentlemen did today,” Head Coach Allen Friesen said. “They competed very well and hung in there with the best that the NAIA has to offer.”
