Election To Take Place For Vacant School Board Position

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa School Board will be holding an election to fill the seat vacated when Nicholas Hansen resigned.

The district received a petition to hold the election, which had at least the 100 required signatures.

The candidate must reside within district 1 of the Oskaloosa School District in order to run for the office. Information on running for the office can be obtained from the district’s central office.

The election will take place in January of 2017, and the successful candidate will fill the remained of Hansen’s term.

The board also approved the purchase of 2 school buses. The first is a 2016 84 passenger vehicle at a cost of $117,500.00. The second is a 2014 model that is just off lease, and will cost the district $63,500.00. Together, minus the trade-in values, the district will pay $177,500 for the pair.

The board will meet about purchasing two additional buses in the spring, while exploring a potential board policy that will have the district replacing 2 buses every year.

With 34 buses in the fleet, it would take 17 years for a bus to be rotated out of service.

Plans are in place for the design and development of a new softball field; it will be where the current football practice field is located.

Concerns about ADA accessibility and general safety of the spectators at the current field were factors in the move.
