Eight all-region selections for Dutch track and field program
PELLA — The USTFCCCA all-Central Region team was announced Monday morning and seven Central College track and field athletes were recognized for the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor season.
To be named All-Region, an athlete must either be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region or be part of a top-3 relay team.
Mary Gray (freshman, West Des Moines, Waukee HS) and Evie Kammeyer (senior, Urbandale) make up Central’s two female all-region honorees. Gray’s honors were earned in the heptathlon while Kammeyer was in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
The men’s team had five representatives on the all-region squad, including distance runners Mark Fairley (senior, Dubuque) and Kyle Pape (junior, Dubuque, Wahlert HS) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 800-meter run, respectively. Will Daniels (sophomore, Geneseo, Ill.) qualified in the decathlon and high jump. Nathan Fitzgerald (junior, Elkader, Central HS) and Ryan Kruse (senior, St. Clair, Minn.) reached all-region status in the discus and javelin throws, respectively.
Daniels, Fairley, Kammeyer and Kruse will represent Central at this weekend’s NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Daniels will only compete in the decathlon while Fairley, Kammeyer and Kruse will enter the events that earned them all-region honors.
