Edith D. Bridges, 81, of Oskaloosa died Sunday, October 28, 2018, At Mahaska Health Partnership Hospital in Oskaloosa. She was born April 20, 1937, the daughter of Marvin and Susie Leathers Knowler, in rural Keokuk County.

Edith attended Rose Hill High School for two years before transferring to Fremont High School where she later graduated.

On September 26, 1956, Edith was united in marriage to Ray “Ed” Bridges in Oskaloosa.

Edith spent time as a substitute at the post office in University Park. She later went to work for William Penn University as a bookkeeper and retired from there after twenty-nine and a half years.

Edith had a passion for gardening and planting flowers, she especially loved her newest plant, a red flowering passion vine. She also loved spending time fishing and camping. Edith loved to stay home, but always looked forward to traveling to Wisconsin with her family each year. She spent time canning her own fruits and vegetables that she grew in her garden. She was a good cook and enjoyed cooking for her family on Sunday. Edith delighted in spending her time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Her family includes her husband, Ed Bridges of Oskaloosa; two children, Michael (& Beth) Bridges of Oskaloosa, Connie (& Tim Hill) Leib of North Liberty; three grandsons: Jacob (& Riane) Leib of Davenport, Jordan Leib of North Liberty, and Phillip Husband of Knoxville; one sister, Ione Carl of Oskaloosa; a sister in-law, Evelyn Knowler of Ankeny; a brother in-law, Fred (& Cindy) Bridges of Oskaloosa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Floyd Knowler, Harold Knowler, Marvin Knowler, and Jack Knowler; and two sisters: Mary Awtry, and Linda Robertson.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Burial will be held at Garrett Cemetery near Delta. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will begin after 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2018 to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or American Cancer Society.
