(Earle) Allan Robinson, II, 66, of Des Moines, died Sunday, August 12, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. He was born July 24, 1952, in Des Moines, the son of (Earle) Skip and Peggy Carmichael Robinson.
Allan attended school at Southeast Polk.
Following school, he moved to California. While living there he taught cake decorating at Wilson Cake Decorating and worked as a chef at various restaurants. After a few years, he returned to Iowa and settled in Pleasantville. He continued to pursue his passion for culinary arts. He purchased Aunt Beulah’s restaurant in Knoxville and changed the name to Main Street Café. In addition to running the restaurant, he operated Big Al’s BBQ and Catering. After many years of owning and operating both businesses he retired in 2014.
Allan enjoyed coaching his kids in little league, fishing and playing pool. While living in California he enjoyed go-cart racing and scuba diving with his family. He delighted in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
His family includes his four children: Jamey (& Mary) Robinson of New Sharon, Kari (& Anthony) Tripp of Akron, Iowa, Rhys Robinson (& Monica) of Des Moines, and Katie (& Liz) Robinson of New York, New York; six grandchildren: Tanner Robinson, Madison Robinson, Caleb Robinson, Oriah Robinson, Bella Robinson, and Taia Robinson; and many brothers and sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank Hunter; and his grandparents, including Marion Robinson.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 18, 2018, at 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Reverend John Spiegel officiating.
As was Allan’s wish his body has been cremated.
No visitation is planned. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Private family burial of the urn will be at a later date.
