E-B-F Takes Down Albia To Be One Game Away From State Tournament

The E-B-F Rockets and the Albia Blue Demons battled it out in Oskaloosa to see who would continue in the 2018 state title hunt.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The gymnasium of Oskaloosa High School hosted the sectional game between rivals, the Albia Blue Demons and the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Rockets.

Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont head boys basketball coach Travis Stout said his team did have some familiarity with the gym, having played in it earlier in the year when they took on the Oskaloosa Indians.

“I want to say thank you to the Oskaloosa student section that showed up with our student section tonight. They were great. It just helped create a good atmosphere,” said Stout.

Stout said that defensively “we wanted to give them a couple of different looks. We felt like we were able to break them down on film and kind of pick up some tendencies and modify some defensive changes.”

On offense, Stout said the plan was to run their tempo, “that quick pace, that fast tempo, we could really do some damage on the open court. Even if we couldn’t, we thought we could wear them down by the fourth quarter.”

That quick pace could lead the Rockets to go on 10-0 runs, and Stout says that keeping the team focused isn’t a problem. “With Albia being a conference rival, having a lot of respect for their program and their players, we knew that there was a lot of fight left in them. We had to stay focused and keep executing the things we needed to.”

“This team’s been driven all season long by getting to Wells Fargo. We end every practice breaking down to it. Not that if we didn’t get there, the season would be a failure, but it’s a goal they want badly,” said Stout of his team. “They are willing to do what it takes to get it.”

E-B-F junior Gabe Larkin lead the Rockets with 17 points and seven total rebounds. He also had two assists, three steals and two blocked shots in the effort.

Junior Wyatt Klyn had 15 points for the Rockets, and five rebounds, two assists, two steals and one blocked shot.

Senior KJ McCrea added 10 points to the Rockets effort, pulled down six rebounds and dished it out seven times.

For the Albia Blue Demons, senior Nick Maddison lead the scoring effort with 11 total points and two rebounds.

Senior Trent Garver had 7 points for the Blue Demons and seven rebounds in the effort.
