Dutch volleyball squad swept in Friday matinee

SAINT PAUL, MINN. – In its first game at the Saint Paul Classic Friday, the Central College volleyball team fell in straight sets against Carleton College (Minn.)

The Knights (3-2) defeated the Dutch 25-18, 25-23, 25-22.

Central had its lowest kill total of the season (32) as well as its lowest hitting percentage (.077). Outside hitter Alex McNab (sophomore, Colorado Springs, Colo., Pine Creek HS) was Central’s top hitter with seven kills and a .200 hitting percentage. Rachel Bowers (junior, outside hitter, Orion, Ill.) also had seven kills.

Setter Landry Pacha (senior, Wellman, Mid-Prairie HS) notched a double-double with 10 assists and 12 digs. Grace Corey (sophomore, Watertown, S.D.) led the team with 11 assists

“We passed really well today,” coach Jeanne Czipri said. “But offensively we started off timid and slow. Hoping to learn and move forward tomorrow.”

The Dutch play Hamline University at 10 a.m. Saturday and Augsburg University (Minn.) at 2 p.m.
