Dutch No. 2 in NCAA men’s soccer regional rankings

PELLA — Despite winning its only match a week ago, the Central College men’s soccer team was dropped to No. 2 in the NCAA Division III North Regional Rankings.

The Dutch (14-2-2) are the No. 1 team in the United Soccer Coaches North Region poll. The NCAA regional polls are used in the national tournament selection process.

Central is 3-0-1 against the other six teams ranked in the region. It has a 2-1 win at No. 2 Luther College, a 3-2 win against No. 4 Loras College and a 3-2 win at No. 5 Gustavus Adolphus College (3-2). The Dutch tied No. 7 Knox College (Ill.) 2-2.

The University of St. Thomas (Minn.) and St. Norbert College (Wis.) are also included in the top seven at No. 3 and No. 6, respectively.

Central had a bye in the first round of the American Rivers Conference tournament. It hosts No. 5 Luther College in a semifinal match at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon in Pella at the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex.
