Dutch kicker Alberts on preseason watch list

PELLA— Central College football kicker Jon Alberts (junior, Huntley, Ill.) was one of 34 kickers nationwide named to the Fred Mitchell Award Kick-Off Watch List Monday afternoon.
Kickers from all non-Division I FBS schools are eligible for the award based on athletic performance and community service. This year’s list includes nine kickers from Division III schools and 15 other juniors.
Alberts was a first team all-Iowa Conference kicker in 2017 after going 14-for-16 on field goals and 38-for-41 on extra point attempts. The junior also earned Academic all-Iowa Conference and CoSIDA Academic All-District VII first team selections.
In 2017, Alberts won the Iowa Conference Special Teams Player of the Week three times in 2017. He also won the D3football.com Kicker of the Week on October 14 after going 3-for-3 on field goals and 3-for-3 on extra points in a 30-19 win over Coe.
Street & Smith Magazine named Alberts a preseason All-American in June.
Central opens the season at the University of Northwestern-St. Paul (Minn.) on September 1 at 5 p.m.
