Donnette Long, 68, of Montezuma passed away peacefully Thursday morning, January 24, 2019 at her home. Donnette A. Long, the daughter of Donald and Imogene (O’Brien) Abbott, was born on January 18, 1951 in Webster City, Iowa.

Don Nettie graduated from Rockford High School in 1969. Donnette received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Northern Iowa.

On October, 25, 1975, she was united in marriage to Dennis Long. To this union two children were born, Spencer and Abby.

Donnette taught at Deep River-Millersburg Community School for several years and also attended UNI receiving her Master’s in Education in 1991. Following the closure of Deep River-Millersburg, Donnette went to Oskaloosa Community School, where she was the guidance counselor for several years retiring in 2009. Following retirement, she worked at DeJong’s Greenhouse in Oskaloosa to keep busy.

Donnette enjoyed her lake home where she and Dennis had the privilege of raising their children. She loved skiing, going for boat rides and inviting their friends over. She also enjoyed gardening, attending shows at the Civic Center, and watching sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes or the Chicago Cubs. But above all, Donnette loved her family and spending time with them. She had the pleasure of babysitting her granddaughters for a few years. Donnette volunteered at the Poweshiek County Historical Society and was a member of Cuppa Book Club and Monitque Treasure Seekers Antique Group.

Her legacy will be honored by her husband of 43 years, Dennis Long of Montezuma; her children: Spencer Long of Montezuma and Abby (& Ben) Steele of Waukee; her two granddaughters, Harper and Raeleigh Steele, both of Waukee; her brother, Donny (& Erin) Abbott of Clive; and many other relatives and friends.

Donnette was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Imogene Abbott.

Funeral services will begin 10:30 am Monday, January 28, 2019 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Sunday, January 27, 2019 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home with the family present from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Burial will be held in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.
