DONNELLY, WARRIORS SURGE PAST BLACKHAWKS ON THE ROAD

West Burlington, IA – The Indian Hills Baseball team wrapped up its weekend series against Southeastern Community College with a convincing win on the road as the Warriors dropped the Blackhawks 11-9 at Community Field. Indian Hills moves to 21-16 overall on the year.

The Warriors struck early and often to pull away from Southeastern to end the team’s seven game losing streak. Indian Hills’ victory also ended the Blackhawks’ 20-game winning streak, and snapped a four-game skid against Southeastern.

Indian Hills used a commanding 11-1 lead early on to secure the victory in finale of the three-game weekend series. A late surge from the Blackhawks was brought to a halt in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Warriors avoided the series sweep after dropping the opening two contests on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Callum Donnelly (Bulli, Australia/New Mexico JC) powered the offense with an impressive showing at the plate. Donnelly finished Sunday’s affair going 5-6 at the plate, including a double and home run while tying a season-high with four RBI. The sophomore added three runs and a pair of stolen bases in the win.

Donnelly sparked the Warriors with a leadoff knock to open the game in the first before Kevin Ramos (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Springfield Commonwealth) delivered a run-scoring double to center for the 1-0 lead. The Warriors erupted for four runs in the third thanks to RBI base hits from Boris Rodriguez (San Sebastain, Puerto Rico/ESCAED), Dryden Pidlisny (Medicine Hat, Alberta/South Central), and a two-run double from Donnelly.

Indian Hills continued to extend the lead in the fifth as Gage Perri (Andrews, TX/TCS Post Grad) cleared the bases with a three-run double. Donnelly capped the scoring for the Warriors in the sixth with a two-run home run to left, the sophomore’s eighth of the year.

Donnelly becomes just the fifth player in the last 10 seasons to collect five hits in a single contest for the Warriors. The sophomore now leads the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with 19 stolen bases and ranks second in the league with a team-high .390 batting average.

With a hit in all three games this weekend, Perri extends his season-long hitting streak to 10 games. During the stretch. Perri is batting .395 with four home runs and 14 RBI.

As a team, the Warriors have now posted 40 home runs on the year, the most for the program since the 2018 season.

In total, the Warriors saw six players with multi-hit games on Sunday, including three knocks from sophomore Diego Mendez (Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico/ESCAED).

Freshman Tom Beeckmans (Opwijk, Belgium/Kta Dendermonde) secured the win on the day, tossing two scoreless frames with just two hits allowed in his first appearance in more than a month.

Next up for the Warriors is a home doubleheader against nationally ranked Cloud County Community College (KS) on April 18. First pitch from Pat Daugherty Field is set for 1:00 PM.
