DMACC VOLLEYBALL TEAM SPLITS FOUR MATCHES IN DMACC INVITATIONAL
Fifteenth-ranked Bears are 10-11 overall
· DMACC gets wins against Neosho County CC and Highland CC
· Bears fall to Sauk Valley CC and Illinois Central College
· DMACC will face Marshalltown Community College on September 29
The DMACC volleyball team slipped to 10-11 for the season after splitting four matches in the DMACC Invitational September 25 and 26 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
The Bears, ranked 15th in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), lost matches to Sauk Valley Community College (SVCC) and Illinois Central College (ICC) on Sept. 25 and defeated tenth-ranked Neosho County Community College (NCCC) and Highland (Kan.) Community College (HCC) on Sept. 26.
Seventeen kills from sophomore Ramsey Johnston of Chaska, Minn., and 12 and 11 kills from sophomore Brooklyn Lyftogt of Van Meter and freshman Sydney Blackmore of Holstein respectively highlighted DMACC’s effort in a 23-25, 23-25, 25-15, 26-24, 11-15 loss to SVCC.
Johnston hit just .182, getting her 17 kills from 44 attacks with nine hitting errors. Lyftogt hit .213 with her 12 kills coming from 32 attacks with two hitting errors and Blackmore’s 11 kills came from 31 attacks with one hitting error for a .323 hitting percentage.
The Bears hit .232 in the loss, getting 57 kills from 164 attacks with 19 hitting errors.
Johnston and sophomore Saige De Jong of Pella had 24 and 21 assists respectively and Johnston and freshman Kaylie Simons of Carroll contributed three service aces apiece.
Simons led the Bears in digs with 22 and sophomore Kathryn Lukkarinen of McComb, Ill., and Johnston finished with 15 and 12 respectively. Freshman Avery Hasleiet of Center Point topped DMACC in blocks with five, including four block assists, and Lyftogt and sophomore Alli Sheldahl of Hubbard had three block assists apiece.
Johnston had eight kills, Blackmore added six and Lyftogt came away with five in a 23-25, 20-25, 23-25 loss to ICC. The Bears hit just .098 in the match, getting 31 kills from 132 attacks with 18 hitting errors.
Johnston and De Jong came away with 16 and nine assists respectively and sophomore Indy Johnson of Clarion led four players in double figures in digs with 28. Lukkarinen added 23 and Johnston and Simons finished with 10 apiece.
Johnston’s line included 11 kills, 19 assists, three service aces, 14 digs and three block assists in the Bears’ 25-16, 25-14, 15-25, 25-21 upset of NCCC.
Lyftogt matched Johnston’s 11 kills in the win. Johnston hit .400 with her 11 kills coming from 25 attacks with one hitting error and Lyftogt hit .312, getting her 11 kills from 32 attacks with one hitting error.
DMACC hit .278, coming away with 45 kills from 133 attacks with eight hitting errors.
Simons joined Johnston with three service aces and Johnson, Lukkarinen and Hasleiet added two apiece. Johnson topped the Bears in digs with 26 and Simons and Lukkarinen reached double figures with 13 and 10 respectively. Blackmore had four block assists and Hasleiet joined Johnston with three.
Johnston’s 13 kills and 11 from freshman Malia Clayburg of Coon Rapids keyed DMACC’s 25-18, 32-30, 25-21 win over HCC. Johnston hit .542 with her kills coming from 24 attacks with no hitting errors and Clayburg hit .400 with her kills coming from 25 attacks with one hitting error.
DMACC hit .233 in the win, getting 38 kills from 120 attacks with 10 hitting errors.
Freshman Solé Sebree of El Paso, Texas, led the Bears in assists with 17 and Johnston added 12. Simons topped DMACC in digs with 18 and Johnston and Johnson added 16 apiece. Sheldahl contributed four solo blocks and Blackmore added three.
The DMACC volleyball team, 4-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC), returns to conference play Sept. 29 when the Bears face Marshalltown Community College (MCC) at 6 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. MCC is 7-5 overall and 2-4 in the ICCAC.
