Dixie Lee Thompson, 76, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, February 1, 2018, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born May 26, 1941, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Lewis and Frances Padgett Moore.

Dixie attended school in Oskaloosa.

Early on she went to work at Barnes Hatchery in Oskaloosa for a time. She went on to work at Dean’s Cigar Store, Yoder’s Chicken Farms, and Hardees. In 1965, she was united in marriage to Russell Thompson. Later in life, Dixie took training to become a C.N.A. Following her training, she began doing in home health care in What Cheer. Last, she worked at Manor House in Sigourney, she retired from there in 1998.

In retirement Dixie committed much of her time to caring for her aging parents. She enjoyed playing BINGO, and bargain hunting at garage sales and flea markets. Dixie loved people, trips to the store would always take many hours, mostly because she would find someone to visit with in the store. She found great joy in spending time with her special friend Clarence McKee. She delighted in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Her family includes her three children: Raymond (& Merry) Moore of What Cheer, Penny (& Nick) Witt of Evans, and Jannett (& Rex) Walker of University Park; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren, with two on the way (any day); her special friend, Clarence McKee of Oskaloosa; three brothers: Lewis Harlan (& Marva) Moore of Saldia, California, Gary (& Connie) Moore of Oskaloosa, and Keith (& Alice) Moore of Fremont; four sisters: Bonnie Newell of Oskaloosa, Shirley Stocker (& Clarence Kearns) of Oskaloosa, Brenda (& Richard) Shappell of What Cheer, and Sharon (& Bill) Barnes of Oskaloosa; many nieces and nephews; and her cat, Kitty Kitty.

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents; three children: Michael Thompson, Shelly Thompson, and Scott Thompson; a granddaughter, Nichole Thompson; and a sister, Sherrill Moore.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 5, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Burial will be in the Woods Cemetery near Lacey. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Sunday after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 1-3 Sunday afternoon to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the family.
