Dickey Wins Stock Car Thriller, Webster Scores First SIS Win

Southern Iowa Speedway

Oskaloosa, Iowa: Channel Seeds hosted the Wednesday night racing action at the Musco Lighting Southern Iowa Speedway on Memorial night at the races. An additional $1,125 was added to the already expanded weekly purse with donations from fans and racers in memory of fallen loved ones with connections to the Southern Iowa Speedway.

The racing action was excellent all night on the perfectly prepared smooth wide ½ mile dirt track. The Midstate Machine Stock Car feature was an event that had the fans standing as the leaders approached the finish line. Early leader Jason McDaniel was in search of his first SIS win but as the laps wound down, the lead pack swelled to five drivers, the lead was being traded on every lap. As the leaders took the white flag, Scott Dickey found a hole and shot into the lead off of turn two and went on to hold off a hard charging Brett Lowry for the less than a car length win. Lowry held on for second ahead of Nathan Wood.

In the Oskaloosa Quality Rental Sportmods, the field took the green with Blaine Webster leading the field into turn one from his outside front row start. The 17 year old Webster from Ottumwa would go on to lead the race flag to flag but not without heavy pressure from Curtis VanDerwal. The 1V of VanDerwal was able to close in on Webster several times but the youngster was not rattled, Webster held his line and went on to record his first SIS win in his young career.

Mike Hughes scored the win in the Parker Tree Service Hobby Stock 14 lap main event. The veteran Hughes fought off the constant challenges of Dustin Griffiths in getting to the checkers first. Griffiths took second ahead of Clint Nelson.

The Autocrafters Sport Compact feature saw Qttumwa’s Trent Orwig continue his recent hot streak with another win. Orwig out raced Brandon Allison to score the ten lap main event win.

Racing will continue on Wednesday, June 19th with DeJong Manufacturing night at the races. It will be a kids night promotion, with the youngsters in attendance having an opportunity to ride in the race cars prior to the hot laps.
