Dennis Brown, 62, of Ankeny and formerly of Oskaloosa died Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born January 6, 1952, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Merle and LaBerta VanHelten Brown.

Dennis graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1971.

Following high school Dennis joined his father in the family trucking business in Oskaloosa. Denny drove semi as an owner operator his entire working life first for his father at Merle D. Brown Trucking, then Merle D. Brown and Son Trucking, later Dennis Brown Trucking and R.V. Storage. In January of 2011, Dennis moved to Ankeny to be near his sister Sharon and her family. He continued to drive semi as an owner operator contracted to ADM in Des Moines.

He enjoyed motorsports, especially NASCAR and Motocross. He also enjoyed living in Ankeny. He attended Ankeny Free Church with his family. Dennis’ family was everything to him. He will be remembered for his excellent memory and his ability to remember things in great detail.

His family includes his sister and her husband, Sharon and Dave Cubit of Ankeny; two nephews and their wives: Jon and Michelle Cubit of Johnston and Matthew and Sarah Cubit of Ankeny; a great niece, Michaela Cubit; three great nephews: Cody, A.J. and Tyler Cubit.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Pastor John Coyler officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Tuesday morning after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 6-8 Tuesday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Ankeny Free Church Missions in Ankeny.
