Debra Fletcher, 48, of Des Moines and formerly of Oskaloosa died Thursday, June 1, 2017, at her home in Des Moines. She was born July 26, 1968, in Albia, Iowa, the daughter of Phillip and Betty Johnson James.

Debra graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1986. In 1993, she was united in marriage to Richard Fletcher in Ottumwa. To this union two sons were born, Tyler and Zachary. Richard and Debra later divorced.

In 2001, Debra completed C.N.A. training at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa. She used her education working as a C.N.A. in various care facilities. After a few years of working she retired due to ill health.

Debra’s two boys were the center of her life.

Debra is survived by her two sons, Tyler Fletcher of Ottumwa and Zachary Fletcher of Oskaloosa; a sister and her husband, Wendy and Stu Stetter of Kirksville; two nephews, Nolan and Carson Stetter; and many friends.

Debra was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

As was Debra’s wish her body has been cremated.
A private family celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
