Darlene McClenathan, 88 of Deep River passed away Monday morning, February 18, 2019 at the Montezuma Specialty Care. Thelma Darlene McClenathan, the daughter of Virgil and Sarah (Channel) Popejoy, was born on June 23, 1930 in Birmingham, Iowa.

Darlene graduated from Colo High School in Colo, Iowa in 1948.

On February 1, 1953, Darlene was united in marriage to Roy McClenathan at the Montezuma United Methodist Church Chapel. To this union three children were born, Rosemary, Steven and Perry.

The couple farmed their entire lives in the Deep River area purchasing their home farm in 1959. As a typical farmers wife, Darlene loved baking, cooking, canning and freezing all of her produce. She was also a wonderful care giver to her family and relatives who came to live with them.

Darlene was a member of the United Church of Deep River, Busy Bee Club, 50 plus Club, United Church Women and the Widow Club.

Darlene’s memory will be honored by her children: Rosemary Higgins of Barnes City, Steven (& Jacque) McClenathan of Hartwick and Perry McClenathan of Deep River; seven grandchildren: Travis Adkins, Nick McClenathan, Eric (& Crystal Arens) McClenathan, Ben McClenathan, Megan McClenathan, Kevin (& Bree) Walters and Ray (& Kami) Walters; 13 great grandchildren: Tyler Shuttleworth, Conner Adkins, Tucker Adkins, Natosha Walter, Serenity McClenathan, Lacie McClenathan, Austin Hansen, Haylee Walters, Wyllie Walters, Kaya Walters, R.J. Walters, Grant Walters, Austin McMillan and a boy on the way; a great-great granddaughter, Jocelyn Hansen; many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy McClenathan in 1992; brothers, Larry Popejoy and Duane Popejoy; a sister and brother-in-law, Jackie & Cliff Maakestad; and a son-in-law, Bob Higgins.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Monday, February 25, 2019 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Burial will be held in the Golden Rod Cemetery in Deep River.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Montezuma Specialty Care Activities Fund, that will be used to purchase a bus for their residence.
