Dale Eugene Van Veldhuizen, 79, of Oskaloosa, was greeted by his Maker and Savior early on Saturday morning, July 4, 2020. Dale Eugene Van Veldhuizen, son of Henry and Cornelia (Kay) (Van Gilst) Van Veldhuizen was born April 27, 1941 at home near Wright, IA. He was the third child of seven born into the family.
Dale graduated in 1959 from Lacey High School and was committed to the family farm with his father and brothers.
While scooping the loop in Oskaloosa, Dale met Linda Stubbs and their relationship began. On January 2, 1962, Dale and Linda were married at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church. To this marriage, they were blessed with five children: Sherry, Karen, Bryan, Alaine and David. Dale and Linda shared 58.5 years of marriage.
Dale’s love for God’s earth and the stewardship of it fulfilled his lifelong passions. With Linda by his side, he dedicated 40+ years to family and farming.
Dale enjoyed being involved in the community and in his church. He was dedicated to his Lord and Savior and was a lifelong member of the Bethel and First Christian Reformed Churches serving as a deacon. He strongly believed in Christian Education and served as board member at Oskaloosa Christian School and Pella Christian High School. He was a member of the Leighton Lions Club, Red Rock Threshers Club, an Adams Township Trustee, and board member at the Nelson Pioneer Farm. Dale’s favorite activities included attending his children and grandchildren’s events, travel with his wife and coffee with the guys. He never met a stranger.
Dale Van Veldhuizen’s Family Legacy includes: his wife, Linda Van Veldhuizen of Oskaloosa; a Daughter, Sherry (& Leon) Veldhuizen of New Sharon, IA; their children: Jacqueline Skarda (& Billy Ojanguren), and Alison (& Matthew) Kelly & Son Phoenix; a Daughter, Karen (& James) Verhoeven of Redlands, CA; their children: Alexander, Benjamin, and Abigail; a Son, Bryan (& Sheila) Van Veldhuizen of Chula Vista, CA; their children: Austin and Logan; a Daughter, Alaine (& Daniel) Murphy of Yucaipa, CA; their children: Kendall and Colin; a Son,
David (& Wendy) Van Veldhuizen of Zionsville, IN; their children: Desha, Dylan, Dalton, and Dane.
Also surviving Dale are two sisters, Erma (& Merle) Nunnikhoven of Pella, and Mary Vande Kieft of Oskaloosa; one brother, Marvin (& Judy) Van Veldhuizen of Oskaloosa; one sister-in-law, Rosemary Van Veldhuizen of Oskaloosa; and one brother-in-law, Lee Spencer of Carlisle.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Larry and Ronald; one sister, Caryl; and one brother-in-law, Gene Vande Kieft.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 9, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Jonathan Spronk officiating.
There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 Thursday morning in the basement.
Burial will be in The Evergreen Cemetery in Leighton.
According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending a religious public event.
The funeral service will be live streamed at the funeral home’s YouTube Channel for those wishing to support the family from a distance.
Visitation will begin Wednesday, July 8, 2020 after 11:00 a.m. in the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. The family will be at the church on Wednesday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Pella Christian High School and Leighton Lions Club.
