Curta named to D3hoops.com All-Region Team

GRINNELL, Iowa – Vinny Curta ’19, who has made plenty of history in his Grinnell College men’s basketball career, has done so again by being just the third Pioneer ever to be named to the D3hoops.com All-Region Team three times.

Curta, a guard from Oak Lawn, Ill. (Dwight D. Eisenhower), was a third-team All-Central Region selection for the third consecutive season. John Grotberg was a four-time D3hoops.com All-Region pick between 2006 and 2009, while Steve Wood garnered the honor three times between 2002 and 2004.

Curta broke the NCAA Division III record for career free throw attempts with 943 while guiding Grinnell to a 19-6 record, tying the school mark for wins in a season. The Pioneers also had one of the best records in program history in terms of Midwest Conference play, where they went 15-3 and earned a trip to the league tourney for the first time since 2015.

This season, Curta ranks first and second nationally in free throws attempted and made with 266 and 212, respectively. He is also among the national leaders in scoring average (25.0 per game) and assists per game (6.1). Curta ranks second in the league in steals per game at 1.8 and assist-turnover ratio at 2.5, and is fourth in free throw percentage with a 79.7 percent success rate.

Aston Francis of Wheaton College is the Central Region Player of the Year, Mike Schauer of Wheaton was named Coach of the Year while Rookie of the Year honors went to Concordia-Chicago’s Landen Gladney.
