Oskaloosa–Nashali Cruz (So., Bayamon, P.R., Biology) played an instrumental role in her team’s success last week and it was enough to be named Heart of America Athletic Conference Women’s Volleyball Co-Attacker of the Week Monday.

Cruz earned her first career award by helping lead the Statesmen (12-5) to three wins in four contests throughout the week.

The sophomore tallied at least 10 kills in two of four matches, beginning with a 12-kill performance against Mount Mercy, tying a season-high.

After tallying five kills against Grand View on Friday, Cruz was back at it on Saturday and once again broke into double-digits putting down 10 kills hitting at a very efficient .529 clip in a win over Haskell Indian Nations. She concluded the weekend with nine kills in a matchup with Bethel (Kan.).

Cruz shared the honor with Fleur Wesselink of Benedictine.

Overall, Cruz produced 36 kills (2.77 per set) and a .265 attack percentage. She also tallied a solo block and two block assists in addition to 11 digs.

The award is the fourth for the Statesmen this year.
