Oskaloosa–Alex Edwards (Jr., Knoxville, Iowa, Secondary Education) was recognized for being a tremendous student and athlete Thursday.

Edwards, who owned a 3.43 Grade Point Average entering the spring semester, was named an all-District 3 College Division honoree for Men’s Track and Field/Cross Country as part of the Capitol One Academic All-America program by CoSIDA.

The all-district accolade recognizes student-athletes not only for their athletic prowess but also their successes academically. The College division includes institutions within the NAIA ranks as well as Canadian universities and two-year schools.

Edwards was excellent in his junior track campaign, earning All-American laurels during the indoor season as he placed fifth nationally in the 600-meter run. He was also named the Midwest Collegiate Conference Track Athlete of the Year for both the indoor and outdoor seasons, winning the 400, 600, and 800-meter races during the winter and the 400 and 800 in the spring. The junior received MCC Athlete of the Week accolades five times this year as well.

To be eligible for the award, athletes must be of at least sophomore academic standing, be a starter or key reserve player (other playing requirements where applicable), maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or above on a 4.0 scale, and have attended the nominating institution for at least one full calendar year.
