Corner kicks spell success for Central women’s soccer team
CEDAR RAPIDS – Scoring twice off corner kicks, the Central College women’s soccer team bagged four goals in the second half of a 4-0 win over Coe College Saturday.
Piper Eighmy (senior, Birmingham, Ala. Briarwood Christian HS) got the scoring started in the 52nd minute with an assist from Olivia DeVos (junior, Altoona, Southeast Polk HS) five minutes later, Emerson Holle (sophomore, Gardner, Kan., Gardner-Edgerton HS) headed in a Rylee Rustad (senior, Gilbert, Ariz., Casteel HS) corner kick.
Rustad put in another corner kick in the 64th minute that bounced around in the box before DeVos deflected in her 13th goal of the season. Rustad finished the scoring by registering a goal of her own with an assist from Eighmy.
Goalkeeper Zoey Sizemore (senior, Omaha, Neb., Mercy HS) added another shutout to her resume, making four saves. Central outshot Coe 35-7.
“It’s always difficult to get points in this league,” coach Mike Kobylinski said. “IT’s nice to have a comprehensive effort for a 4-0 win and another shutout.”
Central plays at the University of Dubuque on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
