Colleen Hoogheem, 36, of Oskaloosa passed away Wednesday morning, May 10, 2017, at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospital in Oskaloosa. Colleen Marie Hoogheem, daughter of Darrell Allen and Rita Joyce (Bollivar) Hoogheem, was born December 14, 1980, in Davenport, Iowa.

Colleen began her education when she was three weeks old with the A.E.A. in Davenport. Her father’s job in retail required the family to move when she was five years of age to Hibbing, Minnesota. While living there, she began school at the Hibbing school system. In 1987, the family moved to Ottumwa and then to Atchison, Kansas in 1990 and Holdrege, Nebraska in 1994, where she graduated from high school in 2000. In 2006, the family moved to Oskaloosa.

In 2007, she began participating in programs at the Christian Opportunity Center; she enjoyed the activities and friends she made at C.O.C. Colleen participated in field events in Special Olympics in Kansas and Ottumwa. She was also invited to many social events at Imagine the Possibilities where again she enjoyed meeting friends and socializing; Colleen has a special gift for remembering birthdays and anniversaries and sent out countless cards celebrating her friends’ and family’s special days. She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church.

Her family includes her parents of Oskaloosa; her brothers and sisters-in-law: Keith (& Kristin) Hoogheem of West Des Moines and Brian (& Jennie) Hoogheem of Woodbury, MN; a nephew, Blake; her maternal grandmother, Eureath Bollivar of Prophetstown, IL; her fraternal grandparents, Dwight & Irma Hoogheem of Fulton, IL; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Donald Bollivar.

Funeral services for Colleen will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 13, 2017, at the Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Wittern officiating.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., Friday, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will greet visitors from 5-7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Christian Opportunity Center, Imagine the Possibilities or First Resources.
