Coleman Tabbed for Weekly Award
by Wade Steinlage
Oskaloosa–Resean Coleman (So., River Rouge, Mich., Exercise Science) headlined an extraordinary defensive performance by William Penn and for his efforts he was named Heart of America Athletic Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week Monday.
Coleman collected his first-ever honor in leading the Statesmen past Central Methodist 37-7 last Saturday. The sophomore posted seven tackles (two solos, 2.5 for loss) and one sack. His biggest play, though, came on CMU’s second play from scrimmage. He sacked the quarterback, and in the process of doing that, he also forced a fumble that was recovered by one his teammates and returned for a touchdown.
WPU allowed just 69 total yards to the Eagles, including only one completed pass for a net of -5 yards. The visitors were permitted to run only 48 offensive plays and averaged a meager 1.8 yards per snap.
For the year, Coleman has tallied 20 tackles (13 solos), including 7.5 for a loss of 55 yards. He has a team-best four sacks and has also forced a fumble.
The award is the team’s first of the year.
