Cold Shooting Lead to Indians Loss
by Matt Saville
The Osky girls basketball team was looking for a win out of the Little Hawkeye Conference, to get things back on the winning track. What they ran into was a familiar problem, cold shooting and turnovers caused by the oppositions pressure defense. Whether it be of the full court variety or half court pressure, it continues to cause the Lady Indians problems.
Despite the cold shooting, Osky was lucky that Mt.Pleasant was just as cold to begin the game. Osky played solid defense and caused Mt.Pleasant to force some shots as both teams struggled to find any offense. Mt.Pleasant jumped out to a 6-0 lead only to see Osky respond well coming out of a time-out to close to within 6-4 on baskets by Paige Howard and Taylor Richardson to end the first quarter at 6-4.
The second quarter started out on the right foot with a quick bucket by Alexis Westercamp to tie the game up at 6. What happened from there is all too familiar this season, a 14 point run by Mt.Pleasant ended the half 20-8 in favor of the Lady Panthers.
The second quarter momentum by Mt.Pleasant carried over to the second half as they pounded the ball in the paint and worked the ball out for jumpers. Osky committed 20 turnovers in the game to allow Mt.Pleasant to cruise to a 48-14 win.
Oskaloosa was led by Taylor Richardson with 4 pts. and 5 steals, Alexis Westercamp with 2 pts. and 5 rebounds, Paige Howard with 2 pts. and 4 rebounds.
Osky falls to 1-13 on the season and they are in action Tuesday night at home against Knoxville.
