Chester Marion Harnden, age 72, of Eddyville, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Chester was born on April 1, 1946 in Albia, Iowa, to Thomas and Alice Harnden.
After high school, he joined the United States Army and served for six years. He then joined the United States National Guard and served for twenty years. He retired as a Staff Sargeant after 26 1/2 years of proudly serving his country. He also worked as a truck driver.
He was united in marriage to Bonnie Lou Shilling on January 29, 1967, in Ottumwa, Iowa. They were blessed with three children: Lyla, Thomas, and Misty.
Chester is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Harnden; three children: Lyla Harnden (& Jeff Birch), Thomas Harnden, and Misty Harnden; five grandchildren: Skylar, Shelbie, Preston, Gage, and Hannah; one great-granddaughter; three brothers; and one sister.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, and three sisters.
A graveside service, with military honors will be held on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at the Westview Cemetery in Kirkville, Iowa.
A luncheon will be held following the service at the Kirkville Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Chester’s family to help with final expenses.
