Charles Hartwig, 59 of Brooklyn passed away Thursday morning, November 27, 2014 at his home in Brooklyn. Charles Perry Hartwig, the son of Herman and Bonnie (Barth) Hartwig, was born on October 4, 1955 in Rock Island, IL.

Charles attended Tri-County High School. On May 22, 1982, Chuck was united in marriage to Tamara Karsten at the Little Brown Church of Nashua. Together they raised two children, Jamie and Stacy. Chuck owned and operated the Hartwig Standard Station, drove truck for Lynn’s Transport and lastly worked for J & M Roofing for over 30 years.

Chuck was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching Jimmy Johnson. He also enjoyed collecting hub caps and Chevys. Chuck was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and absolutely enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of the What Cheer Baptist Church.

His memory will be cherished by his mother, Bonnie Sherer of What Cheer; his wife, Tammy Hartwig of Brooklyn; his children: Jamie (& Cathy) Hartwig of Sigourney and Stacy (& Shawn) Thompson of What Cheer; his six grandchildren: Jake (& Leslie) Lyman, Ashley Bush, Alana Fisher, Dillon Hartwig, David Gillam and Daniel Gillam; his two great grandchildren: Aria and Daphni; his two sisters: Sara (& Brett) Boorman of Cedar Rapids, and Mary Hartwig of What Cheer; eight nieces and nephews; 4 great nieces and nephew; two sisters-in-law: Stacey Karsten and Kelley Karsten; and many friends.

Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Herman Hartwig; a brother, Aaron Hartwig; a sister, Julie Rutherford; and a step father, Herb Sherer.

Funeral services will begin at 1:30 pm on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Chapel in What Cheer.
Burial will be held in the Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg.
Visitation will begin after 2:00 Saturday, November 29, 2014 at the funeral chapel with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Saturday evening.
Memorial contributions may be made in Charles’s name for the family to determine later.
