Charles Melvin Quick, 91, of Oskaloosa died Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at his home in Oskaloosa. He was born Charles Melvin Griebel to Harry and Geneva Nickerson Griebel on Thursday, February 11, 1926 in Muscatine.

At age 16 Charles changed his last name to Quick and was known as Charles Quick from then on.

Charles attended school in the Muscatine area. In 1944, Charles enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Revenge attaining the rank of QM30, he was honorably discharged in 1946.

On December 28, 1946, Charles was united in marriage to Marjorie E. Mann in Las Vegas, Nevada. Marjorie died November 18, 2014.

Following their marriage they stayed in Las Vegas for a time where Charles owned a business painting signs for many of the hotels and casinos in the Las Vegas area. He later worked doing contractor work with his son Bill.

Charles loved taking his dog Baby for rides in the basket of his three-wheeled bike, racing cars, drawing and making benches. He will always be remembered as a loving caring dad and grandpa. He was a member of the Oskaloosa American Legion.

He is survived by his son: Bill (& Jackie) Quick of Oskaloosa; five daughters: Vicki Cordova of Oskaloosa, Deb (& Al) Bunnell of Oskaloosa, Brenda (& Steve) Fox of Oskaloosa, Toni Quick (& Roger Rouw) of Hedrick and Sandy (& Larry) Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada; 14 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 18 great great grandchildren; a sister, Veljean Hardy of Lewisville, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie; two great grandsons: Brandon Bunnell and Cody Deans; a brother and his wife, Bill (& Sylvia) Quick; and a brother-in-law, Clayton Hardy.

As was his wish, Charles’ body has been cremated.
A memorial service will be held Friday, January 12, 2018, at 11 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Visitation will be Friday, January 12, 2018, in the Bates Funeral Chapel with the family present from 9 A.M. until service time at 11 A.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Military rites will be given, by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W., at the funeral home following the service.
Memorials may be made to Mahaska Hospice Home Health Care or the Alzheimer’s Association.
